Operating from a team perspective creates ownership, nurtures commitment and empowers board members to fully participate in their work. In this workshop, Maria Sanchez-Keane will equip participants with tools to create an effective, innovative, compassionate and collaborative board – turning boards into teams! The Canadian Fundraiser Marketing your mission: Image is Everything. June 3, 2004,Normally, our Executive Director Breakfasts are only open to the chief executives of nonprofit organizations, but I have had a number of requests from executive directors to allow their communications or marketing directors to attend the June 3 session. So for this speaker, other nonprofit staff members are invited. Our speaker, Laurie Lashbrook, is one of the most creative and effective people in the marketing and communications field. She has developed many successful campaigns for nonprofit organizations, both to build awareness and raise funds. She is also a terrific speaker. I always leave her presentations with new ideas and a feeling of time well-spent. Laurie will teach you how to make your mission your most valued marketing tool. Presented by

Questions? call me at (519) 439-3008 Description: Every organization has an image. The question is, is your image as good as it could be? We all know that the world of not-for-profits is getting more and more competitive - for fundraising, media coverage, volunteers, staff, political influence and government funding. Yet for many organizations the mere thought of marketing is somehow distasteful and even inappropriate. Nonprofits need to think of marketing as an opportunity to promote our mission. Marketing is not about putting a full-colour gloss on your organization. It is about making sure that your audience sees the passion and beliefs that lie at the heart of your organization. Doing good work isn't enough. You need to market your mission to create an image that reflects the work you do. ============================================================== NEW AND NEWLY DISCOVERED RESOURCES ON THE WEB============================================================== The internet continues to be an incredibly valuable medium for free resources on governing and managing a nonprofit organization. I cannot keep up with all the new stuff. Here are a few resources I have found very useful. Managing Collaboration Risks: Partnering With Confidence and Success Many funders are looking to maximize their resources by requiring partnerships and collaborative projects. The Nonprofits' Insurance Alliance of California (NIAC) has a downloadable booklet with good advice on how to anticipate and prevent problems in partnerships. prepare for the things that can go wrong. http://www.niac.org/NIAC2/ResourceCenter/DownloadableFiles/CollRisksBook.pdf Canadian Journal of Program Evaluation I am often requested to do program evaluations and have found the Canadian Journal of Program Evaluation to be a valuable resource for articles on methodology and issues in program evaluation. You can search their abstracts for free and download full text articles for for only $5 per article. All Journal issues from1986 through to 2004 are available online. http://www.uofcpress.com/UCP/CJPE.html ============================================================== CANADA REVENUE AGENCY: CHARITIES UPDATE============================================================== If you don’t already know, CCRA has changed its name again. Now it’s just CRA (Canada Revenue Agency). Why didn’t they just go back to Revenue Canada, which always seemed clear enough to me? No matter what they call themselves, their website continues to be updated regularly with helpful new information and forms. Keep up to date at http://www.ccra-adrc.gc.ca/tax/charities/whatsnew/whatsnew-e.html ============================================================== FEATURED WEBSITE============================================================== Alberta Community Developmenthttp://www.cd.gov.ab.ca/building_communities/volunteer_community/resources/ You might not expect the Government of Alberta to be a great source of assistance to nonprofit organizations but this Ministry's website has some of the best resources on the internet. The site includes links to ten free newsletters on a variety of board-related issues. and six downloadable workbooks on developing job descriptions for board members; drafting and revising bylaws; recruiting and developing effective board members; hiring and performance appraisal of the executive director; and financial responsibilities of not-for-profit boards. Also on the site is a kit to assist organizations to building successful partnerships and a kit to help nonprofit organizations develop an enhanced level of awareness around information technology. The website is well worth a visit. ============================================================== ============================================================== To Subscribe or Cancel this Newsletter============================================================== I am a consultant and trainer dedicated to improving the quality of governance and planning in the nonprofit sector.
